What Defines an Heirloom Garment?
True heirloom quality gowns are made with fine, natural fabrics and trims – 100% organic silks, linens, and high-end cottons. (Polyesters-which are basically woven plastic-do not qualify as heirloom.) They are accented with hand embroidery, beautiful French and Swiss laces, trims, insertions, and handmade cotton tatting. They close with mother of pearl buttons – never zippers. They can be constructed completely using hand stitching, or utilizing an updated version of the old-world hand style of French heirloom sewing techniques.
The designs are usually considered “classic” in nature – not bowing to what’s in style at the moment.
There are many different “grades” of fabric. We do not “cut costs” with inferior materials or trims. Only top of the line fabrics, trims, and buttons are used. All items are handmade, here, in St. Louis, MO USA.
